What is the difference between trimming and pruning?

Trimming is about shape and size — cutting back overgrowth so the tree fits your property. Pruning is targeted work for health, structure, or safety. Most jobs involve both. What matters is that every cut has a reason and follows proper technique.

When is the best time to trim trees in Atlanta?

Late January through early March for most species — trees are dormant, structure is visible, and cuts seal fast in spring. But dead or dangerous branches get removed any time of year. Don't wait on a safety risk.

Can you trim trees near power lines?

We trim branches with clearance from live lines. Work directly on high-voltage lines is Georgia Power's territory. If trees are growing into lines, call us and we'll assess what's safe to handle.

What is tree topping and should I worry about it?

Topping cuts the main trunk or large upper branches to reduce height. It's condemned by the ISA — large wounds, weak regrowth, shortened tree life. We don't do it. If another company recommends it, that's a red flag.

How often should trees be trimmed?

Mature trees: professional look-over and selective pruning every 3–5 years. Young trees: every 1–3 years while branch architecture forms. Fast growers like Bradford pear and silver maple need more frequent attention.

Do you handle crape myrtle pruning?

Yes — correctly. Crossing, dead, and rubbing branches removed while keeping the natural form. If yours have been topped to stubs every spring ("crape murder"), we can assess and recommend a recovery plan.

Do I need a tree arborist or a tree service?

An arborist diagnoses what a tree actually needs. A tree service does the physical work. For most tree pruning jobs you want both on the same visit: someone who can judge whether a limb should come off, and then take it off correctly.
